Terex has remained a competitive player in the materials handling and industrial equipment sector. They are working towards forming a franchise under the name brand Terex by incorporating all of their earlier brand names for many of the goods used in conjunction operations the brand Terex. Currently, Terex products are principally marketed under the Terex brand name. Several of the following historic brand names and transitional names include: ATC, Amida, American Truck Company, American, Advance, Bartell, Benford, Bendini, Bid-Well, CMI, CMI-Cifali, CMI Johnson-Ross, Cedarapids, Canica, Comedil, Demag, ELJay, Franna, Fermac, Finlay, Fuchs, Genie, Hi-Ranger, Jaques, Load King, Morrison, O&K, Peiner, PPM, Powerscreen, Pegson, Reedrill, Schaeff, Simplicity, Standard Havens, Tatra, TerexLift, Telelect and Unit Rig.
Terex has had a consistent expansion sequence. In 1995 Terex acquired PPM Cranes, in 1996, then Terex divested Clark Materials Handling. In 1997 Terex acquires Telelect and Simon-RO. BPI Handlers in Baraga, Michigan is also acquired this same year.
Terex rapidly grew their mining and Crane business with the acquisition of O&K mining, TerexLift, Gru Comedil, American Crane and Peiner. A Light Building business soon followed in 1999 when Terex acquired Amida, Bartell and Benford. They soon became a leader within the crushing and screening market by buying Cedarapids, Powerscreen, BL Pegson, Re-Tech, and Finlay. Franna, Kooi and Princeton crane suppliers were also added to Terex in 1999.
By purchasing Fermac, a specialized manufacturer of tractor loader backhoes, in the year 2000, Terex expanded into the Compact Equipment market. Their Light Construction business continued to expand business with the acquisition of Coleman Engineering. This same year, Terex divested Moffett, Kooi and Princeton.
Terex beefed up its Roadbuilding division in 2001, operations with the purchases of Bid-well, Load King, CMI, Jaques and Atlas.
Single ratio transmissions exist, and they function by adjusting the torque and speed of motor output. Many transmissions consist of many gear ratios and the ability to switch between them as their speed changes. This gear switching could be accomplished by hand or automatically. Reverse and forward, or directional control, could be supplied too.
The transmission in motor vehicles will generally connect to the engines crankshaft. The output travels via the driveshaft to one or more differentials in effect driving the wheels. A differential's most important function is to be able to change the rotational direction, even though, it can also provide gear reduction too.
Power transmission torque converters and other hybrid configurations are other alternative instruments utilized for torque and speed adjustment. Conventional gear/belt transmissions are not the only mechanism obtainable.
The simplest of transmissions are simply called gearboxes and they supply gear reductions in conjunction with right angle change in the direction of the shaft. From time to time these simple gearboxes are used on PTO equipment or powered agricultural machines. The axial PTO shaft is at odds with the usual need for the driven shaft. This particular shaft is either vertical, or horizontally extending from one side of the implement to another, depending on the piece of equipment. Silage choppers and snow blowers are examples of more complicated machines that have drives supplying output in many directions.
